One main purpose is to maintain close relations with the Japanese industry associations. This has led to closer co-operation between the VDMA and its specialist associations (FV) and the equivalent Japanese associations. Further tasks include the exchange of information plus the simplification and adaptation of statistics. The office also organizes research on a contract basis for several associations within VDMA, which then receive monthly reports. It also answers ad-hoc questions and inquiries from all other associations (FV).

The office also offers assistance to individual member companies. Simple questions are answered free of charge, while for more complicated tasks, the office sends the member an estimate of the cost and the required time-frame.
